In 2014 Elspeth named her studio practice Thread and Word.The studio is inspired by a poem written in 1970 by the chilean artist Cecilia Vicuña. The poem references threads as a metaphor to engage with each other and the world around us in order to build healthy communities.Through Thread and Word, Elspeth invites artists, authors, academics and friends to collaborate with her in projects. Elspeth values the act of creation, shifting away from the focus on the resulting object-artwork. Collaboration and mapping are at the heart of this work.
